Tow Rating a Electric Vehicle with No Rating

How we determine the most suitable towbar for Electric and Hybrid vehicles with no rating

The rating of the towbar for a particular vehicle is determined by the characteristics of the vehicle not the design of the towbar.

This information on the characteristics of the vehicle is held by the manufacturer and the normal practice is that the manufacturer states the towing capability of the vehicle.

For some vehicles the manufacturer notes that the vehicles is not suitable for towing or does not provide any guidance for towing ie. no rating.

Type approval or certificate of conformity is granted to a product that meets a minimum set of regulatory, technical and safety requirements. Generally, type approval is required before a product is allowed to be sold in a particular country, so the requirements for a given product will vary around the world.

Thus some vehicles may not have any rating information associated with them, our practice is, where no rating is available we will advise you of this and based on understanding of the vehicle compared to New Zealand models or similar chassis design with a rating we will design a towbar according to those specifications.

Where there is no information form the manufacturer use of the towbar at the purchasers risk.  Refer to your vehicle user manual for the specific tow rating.

We’re doing all we can to make sure the product is fit for purpose, and our primary focus still remains safety.
